Volleyball Protects Home Court with Wins Against Mary Persons, Putnam County

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity volleyball team (9-4) picked up two wins on Thursday night at the Middlebrooks Athletics Center en route to a perfect 4-0 week.

Thursday’s victories came against the Mary Persons Lady Bulldogs in a 2-1 match followed by a 2-0 shutout over the Putnam County Lady Eagles.

In FPD’s match against the Lady Bulldogs, it would take three games to decide. FPD won game one 25-21 before dropping the second game 22-25. Game three would go FPD’s way 25-17 to seal the win.

Mackenzie Johnson and Lundy Lader finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Kirsten Beach also added six.

Sophie Seneker paced the Lady Vikings with four aces and six digs. Morgan Mullis also totaled six digs in the victory.

The second match of the night saw the Lady Vikings win with ease over the Lady Eagles in two sets, 25-11 and 25-9.

Johnson and Lader combined for nine kills and Mary Persons (FPD player) tacked on six aces. Anna Massey finished with five aces as well.

Mullis had four digs for a two-match total of 10.

The Lady Vikings return to the court after the Labor Day holiday, traveling to Aquinas High School on Tuesday, Sept. 6 for matches against Tattnall Square and Aquinas.

First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Augusta, Ga.
