Softball Earns No. 3 Seed in 2016 GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity softball team (25-4) has qualified for the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament, announced Tuesday, Oct. 11, by the GHSA office.

The Lady Vikings will be the no. 3 seed in the 2016 tournament.

This year’s field has been expanded to 24 teams and the top eight teams (region winners and top power rating teams) earn an automatic ‘bye’ into the Sweet 16.

FPD will host the winner of the Mt. Vernon/Holy Innocents series on Wednesday-Thursday, Oct. 19-20 at the FPD Softball Complex.

Games 1 and 2 will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 19. If necessary, Game 3 will be played the following day on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Game times for the Mt. Vernon/Holy Innocents series will be announced at a later date.

If the Lady Vikings win the series, they will earn their fourth consecutive trip to the GHSA Class-A Private Elite Eight in Columbus, Ga.

The Lady Vikings are looking for another deep run in GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament.

Dating back to 2013, the Lady Vikings have finished third each year when advancing past the Sweet 16 round.
