Softball Roars Past Christian Heritage Lions 2-0 in Elite 8, Stay in Winner’s Bracket

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Less than 24 hours after taking Game 1 of the GHSA Class-A Private Elite Eight over ELCA, the FPD Lady Vikings (29-5) responded with a 2-0 victory over the Christian Heritage Lady Lions (13-8) on Friday morning to stay in the winner’s bracket at Hank Pasko Field at the South Commons Softball Complex.

FPD, the no. 3 seed, will now take on Wesleyan, the no. 1 seed, on Saturday morning, Oct. 29, for a spot in the State Championship game.

The Lady Vikings never trailed in Friday’s contest, scoring the first run of the game when Sadie Frame was hit by Christian Heritage pitcher Erin Leonard with the bases loaded to bring in Carli Sutton to give FPD a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

The contest remained scoreless until the seventh as Leonard and FPD’s Karsen Ochs dueled it out.

But in the top of the seventh and with one out, Allie Parkerson blasted a solo home run to left-center field to give the Lady Vikings a 2-0 lead.

Ochs mowed down the Lady Lions in the bottom half to seal the complete game, shutout win.

Ochs (17-2) allowed just two hits and struck out nine batters while in the circle. Leonard was charged with the loss for the Lady Lions.

First pitch v. Wesleyan is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday morning at Field no. 1 at the South Commons Softball Complex.
