Softball Rolls Past Lincoln County 17-1 in Region 7 Tournament Opener, Streak at 16

MACON, Ga. – There are six states that play fast-pitch softball in the fall season.

And Allie Parkerson is getting noticed nationally amongst all of them.

Parkerson drilled three home runs and tallied eight RBI’s in Tuesday’s 17-1 thrashing of the Lincoln County High School Lady Red Devils in three innings in the opening round of the GHSA Class-A Region 7 Tournament at the FPD Softball Complex to vault FPD (24-3, 9-0 Reg. 7-A) into the semifinals.

The Lady Vikings will take on arch-rival Stratford Academy, who defeated Glascock County 8-5 in the nightcap, on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at a time to be determined.

For Parkerson, though, she is now second in the nation in home runs for the 2016 season with 13.

Parkerson and the Lady Vikings trailed 1-0 after one half inning, but the bats came to life the rest of the contest.

In the bottom of the first, Parkerson hit her first of three homers down the left field line to score Karsen Ochs and Emily Rutledge for a 3-1 lead.

Later in the inning, Abbey Surles single in Amanda Evans for a 4-1 lead.

FPD went back to work after holding the Lady Red Devils scoreless in the second, plating nine runs, four of them on two Parkerson blasts in the bottom half.

Katie Culver, Gracie Slade, and Karsen Ochs also tallied RBI’s in the inning for FPD to take a commanding 13-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third and needing three runs to bring the run-rule into effect, Culver doubled home Caylee Ann Sutton for a 14-1 advantage.

Ochs singled home Culver for a 15-1 lead and Parkerson ended the game on an opposite field single off the wall to drive in two runs for a 17-1 victory.

Carli Sutton (10-2) picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Vikings totaling four strikeouts.

With the win, FPD’s win streak improves to 16, the longest in the school’s GHSA era.

FPD, the no. 1 seed from east, will now focus on Stratford Academy, the no. 3 seed from the east on Wednesday in the semifinal round.

The Lady Vikings swept the regular season series against the Eaglettes 10-2 and 2-0.
