Patterson Surpasses 1,000 to Lead Lady Vikings Past Locust Grove at Copeland Classic

MACON, Ga. – Kate Patterson will never forget Dec. 27, 2016.

The senior became the 11th member of the 1,000-point club in Lady Viking program history with 3:07 to play in the third quarter at the Northeast Copeland Classic on a made jumper from the elbow against the Locust Grove Lady Wildcats.

Patterson finished with 19 points to lead the Lady Vikings (7-2) past 4A Locust Grove (9-2) 44-34.

“She is really a special player,” FPD head coach John Griffin said. “It takes a lot of hard work to get to where she’s at and she is well-deserving of the honor. Our team is happy for her.”

The Lady Vikings led 8-6 at the end of the first quarter and 20-18 at halftime.

The Lady Vikings outscored the Lady Wildcats 24-16 in the second half, including 9-3 in the final quarter to take the victory and push its winning streak to three games.

Bailey Ruble added 10 points in the win for the Lady Vikings as well.

Coming into the game, Patterson needed 15 points to break the 1,000 plateau.

She totaled 12 points in the first half and seven in the second half to do just that.

The last Lady Viking to break into the 1,000-point club was Savannah Phillips (2014).

“It’s been great to see Kate mature as a player,” Griffin said. “She makes us better as a team and does so many things well on the court.”

With the victory, the Lady Vikings will play in the Championship game of the Copeland Christmas Classic at Northeast on Wednesday, Dec. 28 v. Laney.

Laney defeated Rutland to advance to the title game on Tuesday afternoon.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Copeland Court at Northeast High School.
