Basketball Sweeps Mount de Sales Lady Cavaliers, Cavaliers

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls and boys basketball teams closed out a four-game home stand in style with victories over region rivals Mount de Sales Academy at the Coach Mac’s Court at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

In the girls contest, the Lady Vikings (10-4, 3-1 Reg. 7, 1A) bested the Lady Cavaliers (5-9, 0-4 Reg. 7, 1A) 52-34 behind a game-high 22 points of Kate Patterson.

With her performance, Patterson is now no. 10 all-time in career scoring at FPD with 1,069 points. The senior passed Jenna Girardeau (1995-98) to move up the ranks of Lady Viking greats.

The Lady Vikings jumped out to a 12-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and out-dueled the Lady Cavaliers 19-5 in the second quarter for a commanding 31-9 lead at halftime.

The Lady Cavaliers won the second half 25-21, but it wasn’t enough to pull past FPD.

Emma Lako totaled 13 points for the Lady Vikings while teammate Bailey Ruble cashed in seven.

The Lady Cavaliers were led by the 11 points of Destiny Simpson.

The Lady Vikings have now won 12 straight against the Lady Cavaliers dating back to play in the GISA and lead the GHSA series 5-0.

In the nightcap, the Vikings (8-4, 3-1 Reg. 7, 1A) held on for a 44-31 victory over the Cavaliers (2-11, 0-4 Reg. 7, 1A).

The Vikings trailed 10-5 at the end of the first quarter but came out scorching in the second quarter.

FPD posted 17 points in the second quarter while limiting Mount de Sales to four points to take a 22-14 lead into halftime.

The Cavaliers cut the Viking lead to four at 33-29 as part of an 11-0 run late in the third and early in the fourth quarter.

But the Vikings held firm and ended the contest on an 11-2 run to win the game.

Titus Moore led the Vikings in scoring with 12 points. Maurice Gordon and Armaun Smith each netted eight in the victory as well.

Adam Leverett and Jack Beers finished with a team-best eight points for the Cavaliers.

With Friday’s victory, the Vikings lead the GHSA series against Mount de Sales 4-1.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 14, traveling to Mary Persons High School.

Tip-off for the varsity girls games is scheduled for 6 p.m. followed by the varsity boys at 7:30 p.m. in Forsyth, Ga.
