Girls and Boys Hoops Downed by Wilkinson County Lady Warriors, Warriors

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls and boys basketball teams saw their two-game winning streaks come to an end on Wednesday night, falling to region foe Wilkinson County Lady Warriors and Warriors at Coach Mac’s Court at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

In the girls contest, the Lady Vikings (9-4, 2-1 Reg. 7, 1A) fell 37-29 to the Lady Warriors (8-6, 3-0 Reg. 7, 1A)

The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Vikings pulled within two points at halftime, trailing 15-13.

In the third quarter, Wilkinson County created separation with a 13-6 run. In the final frame, the Lady Vikings were outscored 11-8.

Ahnila Owens paced the Lady Warriors with a game-high 13 points while teammate Zhakire Simmons totaled 12.

Kate Patterson netted nine points to lead the Lady Vikings. Emma Lako and Bailey Ruble each finished with eight points.

With the loss, the Lady Vikings trail the all-time series to the Lady Warriors 9-2 since moving to the GHSA in 2010-11.

In the nightcap, the Vikings (7-4, 2-1 Reg. 7, 1A), who were without key role players due to sickness, fell to the Warriors (11-4, 2-1 Reg. 7, 1A) 66-56.

The Vikings trailed 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, but a 19-11 run by the Warriors in the second period gave Wilkinson County a 33-23 lead at intermission.

The Warriors won the third quarter 14-12 and held off a late Viking rally in the final frame to secure the win.

Clarence Jackson totaled a game-high 20 points for the Warriors. Jadaveon Jones and Tylan Grable finished with 14 and 10, respectively.

Three players reached the double-digit scoring mark for the Vikings: Armaun Smith (13), C.J. Harris (12) and Maurice Gordon (10).

With the loss to the Warriors, the Vikings trail the all-time series 9-0.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings return to action on Friday night, Jan. 13, hosting the Mount de Sales Lady Cavaliers and Cavaliers to wrap up a four-game home-stand.

Tip-off for the varsity girls game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with the varsity boys slated at 8 p.m. at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.
