Lady Vikings, Vikings Earn Sweep at Mount de Sales

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls and boys basketball teams swept the regular season series against the Mount de Sales Lady Cavaliers and Cavaliers on Tuesday night at McAuley Hall.

In the girls contest, the Lady Vikings (15-5, 7-2 Reg. 7, 1A) knocked off the Lady Cavaliers (7-13, 1-8 Reg. 7, 1A) 53-34 behind Kate Patterson’s 17 points. Bailey Ruble and Sadie Frame netted 12 and 9 points in the victory as well, respectively.

The win is the 12th straight over the Lady Cavaliers for the Lady Vikings dating back to the 2007 season.

The Lady Vikings led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter and held the Lady Cavaliers scoreless in the second period for a 21-8 lead at halftime.

In the third period, the Lady Vikings posted 22 points, with nine points coming from Ruble on three 3-pointers and five points from Emma Lako, who finished with seven.

FPD’s defense held Mount de Sales to eight points in the third period for a 43-16 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Lady Vikings played many reserves in the final period as the Lady Cavaliers won the fourth quarter 18-10.

Patterson’s 17 points moves her up on the all-time scoring list in Lady Vikings program history. The senior needs 40 to tie Kelli Barnes (98) for fourth place all-time.

In the nightcap, the Vikings (12-6, 7-2 Reg. 7, 1A) knocked off the Cavaliers (2-18, 0-8 Reg. 7, 1A) 55-33.

The game started slowly offensively as the Vikings led 4-0 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Vikings posted 12 points while the Cavaliers netted 11. FPD led 16-11 at halftime.

The Vikings offense came out rolling in the second half, outscoring he Cavaliers 20-13 in the third quarter and 19-9 in the final frame to take the victory.

Armaun Smith paced FPD with 12 points while Henry Middlebrooks and Titus Moore each tallied eight points.

The Cavaliers were led by a game-high 18 points of Adam Leverett.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings return to action on Friday, Feb. 3, hosting Tattnall Square Academy on Senior Night 2017 for winter sports.

Tip-off for the girls contest is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. followed by the guys contest at 8 p.m.

Senior Night ceremonies will take place in between games.
