Lady Vikings, Vikings Take Season Series Over Twiggs County

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ga. – For the second time this season, the FPD Lady Vikings and Vikings picked up wins over the Twiggs County High School Lady Cobras and Cobras to earn a regular-season sweep.

In the girls contest, FPD (13-4, 5-1 Reg. 7, 1A) picked up a 63-57 victory over Twiggs (7-12, 1-5 Reg. 7, 1A).

FPD was powered by four players in double-figures, led by Sadie Frame’s career-high 17 points.

Bailey Ruble totaled 16, including three 3-pointers, while Kate Patterson and Emma Lako finished with 11 and 12, respectively.

FPD trailed 15-13 at the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Vikings outscored the Lady Cobras 22-11 in the second frame to take a 35-26 lead at halftime.

The Lady Cobras won the third period 14-13 as well as the fourth quarter 17-14, but it wasn’t enough to catch up to the Lady Vikings, who have now won four straight and lead the all-time series against Twiggs 10-0.

Kee’Ala Stephens led the Lady Cobras, totaling 19 points, 14 of which came in the second half.

In the nightcap, the Vikings (10-5, 5-1 Reg. 7, 1A) pushed their winning streak to two games with a 54-48 triumph over the Cobras (9-10, 1-5 Reg. 7, 1A).

Armaun Smith led the charge for the Vikings with 22 points while Henry Middlebrooks chipped in with 10 off the bench.

The Vikings led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter, but the Cobras bit back in the second quarter with a 17-14 run.

FPD led 29-27 at intermission.

Both offenses sputtered in the fourth quarter, each posting just eight points.

The Vikings won the final eight minutes 17-13 to take the victory.

Tekebrion Blackshear paced the Cobras is scoring with 18 points and Cortavius Ates posted 16 in the loss.

With the win, the Vikings have now won four straight against Twiggs County and lead the all-time series 7-3.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 21, hosting the Westside Lady Seminoles and Seminoles in non-region action.

Tip-off for the varsity girls game is slated for 4 p.m. followed by the varsity boys at 5:30 p.m. at Coach Mac’s Court at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.
