Baseball Drops to Union Grove 3-2 and Dawson County 12-0 at Strong Rock

LOCUST GROVE, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team took on the Union Grove Wolverines and the Dawson County Tigers in a double-header hosted by Strong Rock Christian School on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18.

In the first game of the day, the Vikings fell to the Wolverines 3-2.

After 2.5 scoreless innings, the Wolverines struck first when Dylan Murphy singled and Ryan Inman scored on a Vikings error to lead 1-0.

FPD bounced back to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth when Michael Bakkar sent a fly ball to center field that was mishandled to bring home Gavin Bloodworth.

Union Grove took the lead for good in the fifth, plating two runs for a 3-1 advantage.

Drew Martin singled to center to bring in Haydon Moss followed by a wild pitch to plate Bryce Martin.

The Wolverines held on for the win in the top of the seventh.

The Vikings brought in one on a balk by Union Grove’s Drew Martin to score Jackson McCart.

The Wolverines ended the game educing a ground-out for the win.

Tyler Staton picked up the win on the mound for Union Grove, tossing 6 innings and striking out two.

Austin Hartley took the loss for FPD.

In the second game of the day, the Vikings (2-2) fell to Dawson County 12-0.

The Tigers posted five runs in the second inning to take the lead for good.

Dawson County added one run in the fourth, two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to seal the win.

Dawson’s Austin Young was 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBI’s. Brise Henson added three RBI’s while Connor Beardon was 2-for-3 with two RBI’s.

The Vikings were out-hit by the Tigers 11-4 and committed four errors on defense.

FPD returns to the diamond on Wednesday, Feb. 22, traveling to George Walton Academy for a non-region contest.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Monroe, Ga.
