Baseball Takes Down Wilkinson County 11-1 for First Region Win

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (5-2, 1-0 Region 7, 1A) picked up its first region win of the season and pushed its winning streak to three games on Tuesday night, defeating the Wilkinson County Warriors 11-1 in six innings at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

Nine of FPD’s 11 runs came in the first three innings, including six in the second.

In that frame, FPD’s Brett McHugh singled with the bases loaded to bring home Austin Hartley and Harrison Aulds for a 3-1 lead.

Two batters later, Dalton Cox drew a bases loaded walk to bring in E.J. Tobler for a 4-1 advantage for the red and black.

Gavin Bloodworth followed by hitting into a fielder’s choice to score Garrett West. A costly Warrior error then plated Cox and Bloodworth for a 7-1 lead.

FPD added two more runs in the third inning to go up 9-1.

Hartley scored on a passed ball before West doubled home Aulds.

In the fifth inning, the Vikings plated one run on a sacrifice-fly by Jackson McCart to center field to bring in Rob Cunningham for a 10-1 lead.

The Vikings brought the run-rule into effect in the bottom of the sixth, scoring once for an 11-1 lead and the win.

Tyler Mimbs picked up the win on the mound for the Vikings.

Mimbs tossed three innings, allowed one run on one hit and struck out seven batters.

FPD played flawless defense, posting no errors in the contest.

The Vikings are back in action Thursday, March 2, hosting the George Walton Academy Bulldogs in non-region play.

FPD defeated George Walton 8-1 back on Feb. 22 in Monroe, Ga. and will look for the regular season sweep Thursday afternoon.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Ben Harden Memorial Field.
