Boys and Girls Soccer Sweep Strong Rock in Viking Cup Action

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls and boys soccer teams picked up shutout victories over Strong Rock Christian School on Tuesday night, Feb. 28, at the Girardeau Field House at the FPD Soccer Complex in Viking Cup play.

The Vikings (2-1-1) took down the Patriots 3-0 behind the hat trick (three goals) of Dane Wiggins to move to 2-0 in the 2017 Viking Cup.

Wiggins gave FPD a 1-0 lead before halftime and added two more to his stat line to seal the win for the Vikings.

Noah Lyu and Alex Newberry each notched an assist for FPD.

The Vikings held the advantage on the offensive end, out-shooting the Patriots 30-3 in the match.

Joshua Raines nabbed three saves in the winning bid.

In the nightcap, the Lady Vikings (3-0) remained undefeated on the young season with an 8-0 shutout over the Lady Patriots to start the 2017 Viking Cup at 1-0.

Jansyn Samples finished with a game-high four goals, while Emma Lako netted two scores.

Madison McMickle and Lindsey Strickland also finished with one goal each.

Elizabeth Nelson tallied two assists in the victory and Lako finished with one.

The FPD defense held Strong Rock to no shots in the match while Lady Viking offense totaled 22 shots.

The Lady Vikings return to action on Wednesday, March 1, hosting Putnam County at 5:55 p.m. in the Viking Cup.

Both squads then return to the pitch on Friday, March 3, for the final day of the Viking Cup, hosting Howard High School.

Opening kick for the varsity girls match is set for 5:30 p.m. with the varsity boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.
