Football’s Thomas McBride Named Macon Touchdown Club Scholar Athlete

MACON, Ga. – Senior Thomas McBride continues to add to his impressive football resume.

The soon-to-be Mercer Bear was named a Macon Touchdown Club Scholar Athlete at the annual Jamboree on Monday night, Feb. 13, at the Methodist Children’s Home.

UGA head coach Kirby Smart served as the keynote speaker for the event.

The award recognizes McBride for his involvement in the community, on campus, on the field, and in the classroom. The award includes a monetary award applied to his collegiate education.

Thomas signed a letter of intent to attend and play college football at Mercer University next fall on Feb. 1.

“I am so proud of Thomas,” FPD head coach Greg Moore said. “He has excelled in the classroom first, and it helped open doors for him in the athletic world.

“He will do great things at Mercer, and he will succeed beyond that because he understands the importance of applying himself to his school work,” Moore added. “That work ethic says a lot about his character.”

Mercer opens the 2017 season against Jacksonville University on August 31.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while upholding the school’s mission statement to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory.
