Girls and Boys Tennis Claim Middle Georgia Invitational Championship

COCHRAN, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls and boys tennis teams surpassed seven teams and claimed the 2017 Middle Georgia Tennis Invitational Championship this past weekend, hosted by Bleckley County High School.

On Friday, Feb. 24, the Lady Vikings defeated Dodge County 3-2 and the Vikings earned a shutout win over Dodge County 5-0.

On Saturday, Feb. 25, both squads advanced to the Championship round .

The Lady Vikings bested West Laurens 4-1 in the semifinals while the Vikings claimed a 4-1 victory over Telfair County.

In the finals, both squads brought home the title.

The Lady Vikings gained a hard-fought 3-2 victory against South Effingham and the Vikings defeated the host Bleckley County 3-2.

The FPD tennis teams return to the court on Thursday, March 2, hosting Bleckley County at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center. (Monday’s match against Strong Rock on Feb. 27 has been rained out.)

First serve is set for 4 p.m.
