Lady Vikings, Vikings Take Down Tattnall Square on Senior Night

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity basketball teams ended the 2016-17 regular season in style on Friday night, Feb. 3, defeating the Tattnall Square Academy Lady Trojans and Trojans on Senior Night at Coach Mac’s Court at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

In the girls contest, the Lady Vikings (16-5, 8-2 Reg. 7, 1A) claimed a 29-21 victory over the Lady Trojans (14-9, 5-5 Reg. 7, 1A) to sweep the regular season series 2-0. The Lady Vikings also pushed their winning streak to three games.

FPD jumped out to a 6-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 11-8 at halftime.

A 12-5 run in the third period put the Lady Vikings on top 23-13.

Tattnall won the fourth quarter 8-6, but it wasn’t enough to cut into the Lady Viking lead.

Kate Patterson and Emma Lako led the Lady Vikings with seven points each. Sadie Frame totaled six while Molly Lee netted five points.

The Lady Trojans were led by a game-high eight points from Abby Rouse. Ivey Whetsel chipped in with six points as well.

The Lady Vikings will be the no. 2 seed from the western division of Region 7 after Friday’s victory and will play at Stratford Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 8, in the first round of the Region 7 Tournament against the no. 3 seed from the eastern division.

Opponent and game time will be known later in the weekend.

In the nightcap, the Vikings (13-6, 8-2 Reg. 7, 1A) followed suit with a convincing 46-34 victory over the Trojans (15-7, 7-3 Reg. 7, 1A).

The victory, FPD’s second straight, gives the Vikings the no. 2 seed from the western division in the upcoming Region 7 Tournament.

Both teams were even at 6-6 at the end of the first quarter, but FPD outscored Tattnall 10-9 in the second period to take a 16-15 lead at intermission.

The Vikings kept pushing in the final two quarters, outscoring the Trojans 30-22 to take the win and the season series 2-0.
