Aulds’ Walks-Off Home Run Pushes Vikings Past George Walton, 7-6

MACON, Ga. – Harrison Aulds rose to the occasion in Thursday’s varsity baseball contest against the George Walton Academy Bulldogs (3-6) at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

With one out and Austin Hartley on first and trailing 6-5, Aulds blasted a two-run home run over the center field wall to give the Vikings (6-2) a walk-off 7-6 victory in non-region play.

With the win, the Vikings push their winning streak to four games.

FPD lead early on, up 3-0 after two innings of action.

Michael Bakkar walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first to score Garrett West followed by a Dalton Cox fielder’s choice to plate to bring in Ryan Jones for a 2-0 lead.

In the the second, the Vikings added another score when Gavin Bloodworth singled to center field to plate West for a 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs pulled within one run in the top of the fourth when Aaron Nalepa grounded out to third to send in Omar Daniels.

One batter later, Brennan Carter singled to right field to plate Kale Ledford for a 3-2 game.

FPD appeared to put the game away in the bottom of the fifth, scoring twice.

Brett McHugh walked with the bases loaded to score Bakkar followed by an Aulds free pass that brought in Cox for a 5-2 lead.

The Bulldogs took control in the top of the sixth and seventh, scoring two runs in each frame.

In the sixth, Gabe McCullers doubled to right field to score and Carter came around to score for a 5-3 Viking lead.

The Bulldogs pulled within one run later in the inning on a Cason Brown ground-out to plate Noah Coleman for a 5-4 Viking lead.

Still seemingly in control, the Vikings saw their lead disappear shortly in the top of the seventh when the Bulldogs added two runs for a 6-5 lead.

Carter doubled home Ledford to tie the game at 5-5.

Later in the inning, Brown singled in Carter for a  6-5 lead Bulldog lead.

In the bottom half, Aulds and the Vikings snatched the lead back in dramatic, walk-off fashion to take the win.

Austin Hartley picked up the win for FPD on the mound while Omar Daniels was charged with the loss.

FPD won the contest despite being out-hit 10-5 in the game.

The Vikings are back in action on Saturday, March 4, taking on The Wesleyan School at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon.

First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday.
