Baseball Drops Region Contest at Mount de Sales, 7-4

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (8-7, 1-1 Reg. 7, 1A) dropped it’s fifth consecutive game on Tuesday night, March 14, falling to the Mount de Sales Cavaliers (8-4, 1-2 Reg. 7, 1A) at Cavalier Fields.

The Vikings led 1-0 at the end of the top of the first when Gavin Bloodworth grounded out to score Ryan Jones.

The lead was short-lived, though.

The Cavaliers outscored the Vikings 7-1 over the first four innings of play to take a commanding lead.

In the bottom of the first Zack Tong hit a two-tun home run to give Mount de Sales a 2-1 lead.

The Cavaliers added two more runs in the bottom of the third, the first on a Pinkney Gilchrist line drive to score Jack Lipson for a 3-1 advantage.

Later in the inning, Joseph Dufford singled to plate Tong for a 4-1 lead.

Mount de Sales added three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-1 lead.

Lipson doubled home Leverett, Gilchrist singled to score Lipson and Tong came in on a sacrifice fly by Dufford.

The Vikings added a run in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 7-2 contest when Ryan Jones hit a sacrifice fly to plate Harrison Aulds.

After a scoreless sixth, the Vikings attempted to make a late comeback in the top of the seventh by scoring two runs.

Bloodworth singled to center field to bring home Chet Thompspon and Ryan Jones, but in the end it was enough to overcome the early deficit.

Hartley was charged with the loss for the Vikings on the mound while Lipson picked up the win for the Cavaliers.

FPD returns to action on Friday, March 17, hosting Mount de Sales at 7 p.m. at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

The game is designated “Youth Baseball Night” at FPD. All those participating in youth baseball in the middle Georgia area will be admitted for free and will enjoy a night of fun and games on and off the field.
