Baseball Takes Back-and-Forth Battle vs. ELCA in Extras, 10-9

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (8-2) saw a five-run lead disappear early, only to fight back to take a dramatic 10-9 victory over the ELCA Chargers (3-7) in eight innings on Monday night, March 6, at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

Trailing 9-8 in the bottom of the eighth, the Vikings scored two runs to take the win on two bases loaded walks.

Dalton Cox walked with the bases loaded to score Garrett West to tie the game at 9-9 followed by a a Tyler Mimbs free pass to plate Gavin Bloodworth, the latter free pass good for the 10-9 victory.

FPD was in control early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first.

Gavin Bloodworth smashed his third home run of the season (and third in two games) to give FPD a 2-0 lead.

Austin Hartley singled later in the inning to score Michael Bakkar for a 3-0 lead.

Harrison Aulds followed with a double to bring in Cox and Hartley for a 5-0 advantage.

ELCA got on the board in the top of the second for a 5-1 contest on a Jon Paul Wheeler double to plate Mason East.

Momentum shifted in the third and fourth innings when ELCA scored a combined six runs to take a 7-5 lead.

FPD tied the game at 7-7 in the bottom half of the fourth on two RBI singles, one by Ryan Jones and the other by Bakkar.

ELCA reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth on an infield error by the Vikings for an 8-7 lead.

FPD tied the contest again in the bottom of the sixth on a Bloodworth RBI single to bring home Jackson McCart for an 8-8 game.

Both squads went scoreless in the seventh to force extra innings.

ELCA plated one run in the top of the eighth on a Tre’ Douglas home run followed by the two bases loaded walks by FPD in the bottom half for the win.

Noah Takac picked up the win for the Vikings on the mound.

FPD is back in action on Thursday, March 8, traveling to the PG Tournament at Lake Point to begin a four-game, three-day weekend tournament.

Thursday’s game time and opponent will be announced closer to game day.
