Boys and Girls Soccer Pick Up Wins in Day Two of Border Classic

MACON, Ga. – Day two of the TaxSlayer was kind to the FPD varsity soccer teams, as the Vikings (4-3-3) defeated Augusta Christian 1-1 (5-4 in PK’s) followed by a 4-0 victory for the Lady Vikings (10-0) over Aquinas.

In the boys match, FPD’s lone goal in regulation came via Stephen Summerow.

Both teams battled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation and overtime to force penalty kicks.

The Vikings knocked in all five attempts and FPD keeper Josh Raines blocked the final penalty kick by Augusta Prep to give the Vikings the victory.

In the girls match, the Lady Vikings led at halftime 2-0 against Aquinas with goals from Emma Lako and Jansyn Samples.

Elizabeth Nelson assisted both goals in the first period.

In the second half, the Lady Vikings added two more goals. Sadie Frame and Karsten Herron scored for a 4-0 lead. Gracie Matthews also had an assist in the second half.

The Lady Vikings have not allowed a goal in 10 matches played in 2017 and have outscored opponents 74-0.

Both squads close out the Border Classic on Saturday, March 18.

The Vikings take on Deerfield at 9 a.m. while the Lady Vikings go up against Lowndes County at 12:20 p.m.
