Mount de Sales Cavaliers Upend FPD Vikings, 8-3

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (8-8-1, 1-2-1 Reg. 7, 1A) dropped its the sixth consecutive game on Friday night, March 17, falling to the Mount de Sales Cavaliers (9-5, 3-2 Reg. 7, 1A) 8-3 at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

The Cavaliers scored three runs in the top of the second to take the lead for good.

Alex Mills singled in Pinkey Ghilchrist for the games first run for a 1-0 Cavalier lead.

Carson Riley followed by hitting into a 4-6-3 double play to score Joseph Dufford for a 2-1 advantage.

The final run of the third came on a Viking infield error to plate Adam Leverett for a 3-0 lead.

The Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Dylan Cox singled to plate Ryan Jones for a 3-1 Cavalier lead.

Mount de Sales answered in the fifth, scoring on another infield error by the Vikings to make it a 4-1 game.

An inning later, the Cavaliers sealed the deal when Zack Tong drilled a line drive down the right field line with the bases loaded to plate three runs for a 7-1 lead.

FPD added two in the bottom of the sixth on a Chet Thompson single to bring in Michael Bakkar and Cox.

Leverett picked up the win on the mound for the Cavaliers, tossing six innings, allowing three runs and striking out 10 batters.

FPD’s Gavin Bloodworth was charged with the loss.

The Vikings are back in action on Tuesday, March 21, hosting the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans in GHSA Class-A Region-7 play.

First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. at Ben Harden Memorial Field.
