Baseball Falls at Aquinas in Extras 4-3 in Region 7 Tournament Opener

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball (13-13) team dropped to the Aquinas Fightin’ Irish 4-3 in 10 innings on the road on Monday afternoon, April 17, in the first round of the GHSA Class-A Region-7 Tournament.

With the loss, the Vikings will now await word from the GHSA on an at-large bid to the Class-A Private State Playoffs within the next week.

After two scoreless innings, the Vikings plated three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead.

FPD’s Gavin Bloodworth smashed a two-run home run followed by a Tyler Mimbs stolen base at the the plate.

Aquinas answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 3-2 contest.

The first run came on a Joe Douglas single to bring home Brooks May followed by a John Paul score on a passed ball.

The Fightin’ Irish pulled even in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Kam Brinson to make it a 3-3 game.

Both squads went scoreless over the final inning of regulation to force extra innings.

Aquinas sealed the win in the bottom of the tenth on an Ethan Scott walk-off home run.
