Boys Tennis Second, Girls Third at GHSA 1A Area-1 Private Tourney

MACON, Ga. – Since moving to the GHSA in 2010, the FPD varsity boys and girls tennis teams have never missed the postseason.

That trend will continue in 2017, as the Vikings and Lady Vikings locked up spots in the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, April 19, at the John Drew Smith Center by securing Top-4 finishes in the Area-1 Private Tennis Tournament.

The Vikings defeated Savannah Christian in the quarterfinals and Savannah Country Day in the semifinals to advance to the Championship round.

FPD would fall to Stratford 3-0 in the Finals to take the no. 2 seed from Area-1.

On the girls side, the Lady Vikings took the no. 3 seed.

FPD bested Savannah Country Day in the first round and dropped to the consolation bracket after a loss to Brookstone in the semifinals.

In the third/fourth place match, the Lady Vikings defeated Savannah Christian 3-1.

Both squads had several players make the All-Area 1 Team.

Ruth Samuel and Maggie Moody took home medals after being named to the All-Area Girls Doubles Team.

Christian Tinkey was named to the All-Area Boys Singles Team while Camden Lashley, Marshall Danner and Halen Fulk were selected to the All-Area Boys Doubles Team.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings will await word from the GHSA on State Tournament Brackets.
