Girls and Boys Tennis Fall in First Round of GHSA State Tournament

The 2017 season came to a close for the FPD varsity girls and boys tennis teams on Tuesday afternoon, April 25.

The Lady Vikings (15-5), the no. 3 seed from Area-1, traveled to Atlanta and fell to Holy Innocents’, the no. 2 seed from Area-3, 3-1.

FPD’s lone win of the match came in doubles play as the duo of Maggie Moody/Ruth Samuel won their match 6-1, 6-2.

The Vikings (16-4), the no. 2 seed from Area-2, fell victim at the Tattnall Tennis Center to The Paideia School, the no. 3 seed from Area-3, 3-1.

FPD’s doubles squad of Camden Lashley/Merit Huggins picked up a match win 7-5/6-1.

Both squads have made the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament since moving to the league in 2010.

The Lady Vikings graduate four seniors: Maggie Moody, Ruth Samuel, Katlyn Smaha and Yuka Yokoyama.

The Vikings graduate just one senior in Will Sun.
