Soccer Closes Out Regular Season with Split Against Upson-Lee

THOMASTON, Ga. – The FPD varsity soccer teams closed out the regular season on Thursday night, April 20, taking on the Upson-Lee Lady Knight and Knights on the road.

The Lady Vikings (18-0) battled to a 10-0 victory while the Vikings (9-6-3) fell 3-1.

In the girls match, the Lady Vikings remained unbeaten to finish out the 2017 campaign.

Emma Lako netted four goals in the win while Sadie Frame and Jansyn Samples powered in two scores each. Gracie Matthews and Elizabeth Nelson also tallied one goal in the win.

The Lady Vikings finished with nine assists in the match as well.

Kate Patterson and Lako each recorded two assists while Nelson, Samples, Sara Parker Ware, Molly Lee, Lindsey Strickland each had one assist.

In boys action, the Vikings fell 3-1 to the Knights in the nightcap.

Dane Wiggins netted the lone goal for FPD on an assist from Tyler Shultz.

Josh Raines finished with 14 saves in goal for FPD.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings will now advance to the Class-A State Tournament, scheduled for next week.

Brackets, 0pponents and match times will be released by the GHSA in the coming days.
