FPD Softball Game Stopped When Umpire Has Chest Pains

Ellaville, GA – The FPD Softball game Monday afternoon against Schley County which began at 5:00 p.m. was cancelled heading into the bottom of the 2nd inning when the home plate umpire complained to Coach Denny Bryant about experiencing chest pains.

Monday’s game time temperature was 91, but the heat index was pushing triple digits with the high humidity levels the entire Central Georgia region was experiencing according to local weather information.  Coach Bryant, who has known the GHSA Umpire for years, noticed he wasn’t looking right and asked him if he was ok. The umpire informed Bryant, he was having chest pains and immediately both coaches had him get in the shade of the dugout as they called the local paramedics.

The game was immediately stopped due to the medical emergency and play did not resume. Schley County was leading at the time 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 2nd inning, but per  GHSA rules the game must be started entirely over since the game did not reach the 4th inning.

According to Coach Bryant all medical test conducted yesterday evening at the hospital on the game umpire checked out good. Further test would be ran today

Our thoughts and prayers are with him.

The rescheduled game will take place on Wednesday September 13. It will now be a doubleheader starting at 4 followed by the second game at 6.

Viking Softball returns to action Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. with a home game against West Laurens High.
