FPD Softball Dominates Stratford 10-2

FPD – The Lady Vikings Softball team came hungry to play Tuesday night in their home region opener after a week off against Stratford Academy defeating them in 5 innings 10-2.

The Vikings jumped out early with Olivia Parker’s RBI base hit to give the Vikings an early 1-0 lead. They would go on to score 2 more runs in the bottom of the first after starting pitcher Karsen Ochs struck out the side to begin the game.

Stratford would strike back with a run in the top of the 2nd and 3rd innings to pull within one run but that would be the closest Stratford would come all game. In the bottom of the 3rd Sydnee Sconyers would drive in Sadie Frame who reached base on a double to left center field to make the score 4-2 and Gracie Slade would get an RBI in the 3rd also to extend the Vikings lead to 5-2.

Ochs would shut down Stratford¬† in order in the top of 4th and then first baseman Moe Register would blast a homerun to straightaway center making the score 6-2 heading into the top of the 5th. Again Ochs and the Vikings fielders would shut down Stratford’s lineup and then score 4 in the bottom of the 5th all with 2 outs to invoke the mercy rule.

Ochs would finish the night only allowing only 2 hits and striking out 8.

Offensively every Lady Viking would reach base at least once in the game. Karsen Ochs, Abby Surles and Moe Register would each have multiple hits. The Vikings as a team would finish with a total of 11 hits.

The Lady Vikings get their first region win of the year (1-1) and even up their overall record at 3-3.  They travel to Crawford County Wednesday afternoon September 6th with game time scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start
