Viking Cross Country Has Another Top 5 Finish


The Viking Invitational took place yesterday on the last day of summer with the temperature pushing 90+, but that didn’t slow down either cross country team as they competed against 14 other teams with both ending the day with another top 5 finish on the season.

Leading the way again for the boys was freshman Jack Beeland with a time of 19:37 which was good enough for 15th overall out of the 201 who competed in the Viking Invitational yesterday. Senior Cooper Martin wasn’t far behind Beeland with a time of 19:41 and a 16th overall finish. Other top placers for the Vikings were ¬†sophomores Jack Hardy (20:18 – 26th), Camden Lashley (20:19 – 27th) & Wyatt Hicks (20:34 – 30th).

For the Lady Vikings in the Viking Invitational junior Mary Jane Bonfirm led the way with a time of 26:29 placing 29th overall out of 137 who competed in the girls division.  Finishing right behind her was freshman Reese Lefholz with a time of 26:41 and a 30th overall finish. Other top placers for the Lady Vikings were junior Mia Ferro (26:46 Р34th), sophomore Anne Grace Reeves ( 27:30- 43rd), & junior Karsten Herron (28:29 Р55th).

Both Cross Country teams return to the trail on Monday September 25th in Warner Robins for the Warner Robins Invitational which was moved due to Hurricane Irma. The start time for the boys is at 6pm with the girls followed immediately after the completion of the boys race. Then later in the week they’ll head to Cochran on Thursday September, 28th for the Bleckley County Invitational.
