#2 Lady Vikings Soccer Looks To Take Out Defending Champs Wesleyan

The second ranked and undefeated Lady Vikings Soccer Club will be taking on the defending Class-A Soccer Champs on their home turf this evening at FPD. The Lady Vikings are looking to extend their current two-year undefeated home streak as well entering tonight’s match.

The team currently is 20-0 and their last loss happened in the state championship game against Wesleyan last season at Mercer, but Head Coach Joshua Trieste isn’t playing this match up tonight as a revenge match from last season. ” Yes, we do get another shot at Wesleyan, but we are a different team this season and so are they, said Trieste. “We don’t get the trophy back tonight for beating them but, it is still Wesleyan and they are the defending champs.

Trieste, said when the team found out who they were facing in the Elite 8 the girls were excited and have put in some great days at practice in preparation for an extremely talented Wesleyan.  “They (Wesleyan) started out the season slow but they were missing a few girls who compete in basketball, and I’ve told our girls don’t overestimate their slow start. They are still Wesleyan and we have to be ready for an extremely well coached and athletic team,” said Trieste.

The Lady Vikings have outscored their opponents this season 161-6.  It took eight matches for an opponent to score on the Lady Vikings and Evans High was down 8-0 late in the match before scoring the first goal against them. The Lady Vikings have been just as dominate in the first two rounds of the GHSA Playoffs outscoring both of their opponents combined 14-0.

“These girls have worked hard all season and tonight is just another opportunity for them to come together and play together on a familiar field which should us give us a lot of confidence,” said Trieste.

The Lady Vikings are asking all fans to wear white tonight and WHITE OUT THE STADIUM!

Admission is $7 for the Elite 8 match tonight and only GHSA Passes are accepted.
