FPD FAST-PITCH HISTORY in the GHSA ELITE EIGHT:

The Lady Vikings have finished third overall in back-to-back years in Class-A Private State Tournament in Columbus.

In 2014, FPD won its first game over Brookstone 4-3 on Oct. 30. Later in the evening, the Lady Vikings fell to Prince Avenue in a pitcher’s duel 1-0 to fall into the loser’s bracket.

On Friday, Oct. 31, the Lady Vikings rallied for two wins, the first a key 8-0 victory over Athens Christian. FPD followed that win up to knock out Brookstone later in the day with a 9-0 win.

FPD’s championship dreams came up short, though on Saturday, Nov. 1. In temperatures at freezing and wind chills in the teens, the Lady Vikings dropped the elimination game on Saturday morning to Prince Avenue 9-3 to finish in third place.

In 2013, FPD was new to Columbus, making its first ever trip to the GHSA Elite Eight in program history.

The Lady Vikings started the tournament, though, on the wrong foot, falling 3-1 to Brookstone and dropping to the loser’s bracket to begin the tournament.

But FPD fought back win vengeance. On Nov. 1, FPD won two straight, the first an 8-0 win over Darlington followed by a 4-0 shutout of Strong Rock Christian.

Still needing two wins to advance to the Championship game, FPD looked poised to do so.

On Nov. 2, FPD was still alive after an early morning 9 a.m. 5-3 win against Savannah Christian.

But once again later in the same day it was Pricne Avenue who ended FPD’s season, defeating the Lady Vikings in a 1-0 thriller.
